Matthew Ashton wins $50,000 Poker Players’ Championship event, after being at his fourth final table this summer. Matthew got his gold bracelet and nearly $1.8 million in prize and now his name will be displayed next to legends like Chip Reese, Freddy Deeb, Scotty Nguyen, David Bach, Michael Mizrachi, and Brian Rast.
Final day started with 8 players on the final table. The first elimination was that of Jonathan Duhamel in a hand of pot-limit Omaha, after going all-in with a pair of kings against George Danzer’s two pair that failed to improve.
Mike Wattel fell next in 7th place and Minh Ly followed him in 6th place when he lost to an ace-high flush from David Benyamine. Danzer was eliminated in fifth place after ferocious raising war in pot-limit Omaha with Don Nguyen. Don Nguyen nailed him in the end with a full house and gained the chip lead.
In four handed play, David Benyamine was getting short stacked and finally lost from Nguyen’s full house and finished in 4th place. Hennigan was next to go before entering heads-up play after losing from Ashton that had two pairs in a pot limit Omaha game.

Ashton and Nguyen battled in heads up play and in the final hand of a no limit hold’em game, Ashton raised from the button with K-10. Nguyen called with a 10-6 and checked the 10-7-3 flop. Ashton bet and Nuygen made a re-raise. A 9 came in the turn and a Q in river. Both players had a pair of 10′s but Ashton had a K kicker that gave him the win.
